Trustee x2 - ShelterBox

ShelterBox is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right - that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No ifs. No buts. Right now, almost 85 million people around the world have been made homeless by natural disasters and conflict. We're working to change this by providing emergency shelter.

We don't believe that one size fits all. We work hard to understand the impact of each emergency and the need this creates within individual communities.

We deliver aid to the four corners of the earth, reaching people in need by standing on strong shoulders. And we are fortunate to have the help of an amazing network of global affiliates, partners like Rotary International, supporters worldwide, and an army of dedicated volunteers. Our highly trained ShelterBox response teams then go the extra mile to find the people left most vulnerable after a disaster - to make sure that no one gets forgotten or left behind. Founded and based in the wild, innovative and adventurous county of Cornwall, in only sixteen years ShelterBox has grown into a major force in international humanitarian aid.

Do you have the skills, personality and compassion to help us write our next chapter? This is an exciting time at ShelterBox as we grow our reach and the impact of our work. We are looking for people to help us expand, develop and excel. People with big hearts and big dreams.

We are impatient to see a world where no family is left without shelter. Are you?

The role

We are currently seeking to appoint two new Trustees to our Board who have the skills and experience to help drive ShelterBox forward, providing strategic vision and effective oversight for our international programme of work.

It is hoped that at least one of the two appointments will be someone with demonstrable experience and skills in disaster or humanitarian relief.

Applicants will have a proven track record of success in their own area of expertise. Applicants should have an understanding of the principles and practice of good governance, have high standards of integrity and be able to promote and support ShelterBox in appropriate settings.

We would also welcome applications from qualified candidates who are female, under 50 years of age, or from a Black or Minority Ethnic background. This is because these groups are currently under represented on the board.

ShelterBox is committed to supporting Trustees to discharge their duties to as high a standard as possible and will provide a comprehensive induction programme, opportunities to develop specific skills and stay up to date with the principles and practice of good governance and regular feedback on performance. We will reimburse reasonable expenses, further to our expenses policy.

We are seeking approximately ten days commitment per year and a willingness to contribute to your own, other Trustees' and the Board's continuous performance improvement
