Purchase Ledger - the dead-end of all accounting task or the back bone of the function? You decide.

Recruiting for a ledger clerk is no mean feat - Most candidates don't want the job. Let's face facts, it's not the most riveting of vocations. Code, check and process, code check and process. Maybe some reconciliations if you're lucky. Maybe some VAT calculations if you're really lucky, and half decent. At least that's how most of our client specifications read.

From a technical point of view, it's not an easy job to sugar coat in a recruitment advertisement. So, what really matters here is the quality of the employer and the prospect of actually moving on from the coding, checking and processing humdrum. Most recruitment advertisements don't mention this, perhaps because there is no opportunity?

And that's what makes this opportunity the diamond in the rough. The employer is a Cornish manufacturer with a difference. They manufacture products that you will have heard of, and probably bought in the past. They're very good at what they do and their business is growing. People like their products and that includes their staff. Their employees also like the company that employs them. They like the friendly, supportive management team, the easy going day-to-day colleagues, the clean offices, the modern IT systems and most of all, the fact that people don't feel that they're either doing, or are stuck in, a dead-end job.

The job pays just south of GBP20,000. Pretty decent for a Purchase Ledger Clerk, especially one based this far west (arguably the finest part of Cornwall). That's another sterling example of how they look after their staff.

Obviously you'll need experience to do the job but neither we nor the employer will be getting bogged down by the status of your AAT studies. What's paramount here is that you're an agreeable human being who likes to work with other agreeable human beings.

Elle Benjamin at Trial Balance Consulting can fill in the blanks here. Just mention reference EB3769 and if you're ready to apply, send a CV stating that you have the experience and are an agreeable human being.
